Hublot défia toutes les conventions en 1980 lorsque Carlo Crocco créa la montre Hublot en or habillée du premier bracelet noir en caoutchouc
naturel de l’histoire horlogère.
Son créateur, Carlo Crocco, acquit, déjà enfant, la notion du beau en grandissant dans une famille Italienne d’horlogers. En 1967, il avait déjà dessiné sa première montre et c’est en 1980 qu’il créa sa propre compagnie, MDM Genève.
Il développa une montre aux lignes épurées avec un grand respect des matériaux tout en transgressant le courant des modes, élégante et sportive à la fois, et pouvant être portée en toute situation. Sa première règle fut la simplicité et son look fut modelé d’après un hublot de bateau. 12 petites vis en titane vinrent sceller la lunette sur le boîtier et marquèrent les heures dans une confluence de forme et de fonction.
Fin 2003, Jean-CLaude Biver décide de prendre une année sabbatique afin de remettre les pendules à l’heure et se reposer un peu. Mais l’homme ne connaît pas le repos. C’est alors qu’il rencontre Carlo Crocco homme de génie qui en 1980, lança Hublot, la montre en or à la forme de hublot habillée du premier bracelet en caoutchouc de l’histoire horlogère et du premier fermoir à double déployant. Le contact passe immédiatement, Carlo Crocco a bien sûr suivi le parcours de Jean Claude Biver et il est l’homme de la situation. Le mercredi 2 mai 2004, Jean-Claude Biver prit donc ses fonctions de comme CEO et membre du conseil d’administration des montres Hublot, la tête remplie de projets extraordinaires pour le développement et le futur de la maison.
2008, Hublot a été racheté par LVMH

He was determined to develop a watch that not only had pure lines and a respect for the materials used, but one that transcended changing fashions and could be worn in both elegant and informal situations. His first rule was simplicity: no superfluous design elements. The look was modeled after a porthole (Hublot in French) and twelve titanium screws anchored the bezel to the case, marking the hours in a confluence of form and function.

At the end of 2003, Jean-Claude Biver decided to take a year's sabbatical to take stock and rest a little. But this man is a stranger to rest. It was then that he met Carlo Crocco the genius who, in 1980, launched Hublot, the gold watch shaped like a porthole with the first rubber bracelet in the history of watchmaking and the first doublehinged clasp. The meeting was an immediate success, Carlo Crocco had, of course, followed Jean Claude Biver's career and sensed he was the man for the job.
